How to Install a Vitamin C Shower Filter in 5 Minutes

Short answer: most people finish in about five minutes with no plumber. You need your new head, a cartridge, fresh plumber's (PTFE) tape and a cloth. Aroma Sense heads fit the standard half-inch connection used across North America. These are the same steps as our installation page, with a few extra tips.

Before you start

  • Turn the water off at the shower if it drips or the connection is stiff.
  • Have a cloth and, if needed, pliers. Use the cloth so you do not scratch the finish.
  • Get fresh PTFE tape. Old tape does not seal reliably.

Wall-mounted head

  1. Unscrew your existing shower head from the wall arm by turning it counter-clockwise. Hand-tight is usually enough; use a cloth and pliers if it is stuck.
  2. Peel off the old thread tape and wrap 3 to 4 turns of fresh PTFE tape clockwise around the threads.
  3. Screw the Aroma Sense head on by hand until snug, then a quarter turn more with a cloth-wrapped wrench. Do not overtighten.
  4. Open the cartridge bay, drop in a vitamin C cartridge and close it.
  5. Run the shower for 30 seconds to flush the filter and check for drips at the connection.

Handheld head

  1. Unscrew the hose from your existing wall outlet or diverter.
  2. Wrap fresh PTFE tape clockwise around the outlet threads.
  3. Attach the hose to the wall outlet, then attach the handheld head to the other end. Rubber washers should already be seated inside each fitting.
  4. Load a vitamin C cartridge into the head.
  5. Run water for 30 seconds to flush and check every connection for leaks.

Handheld heads do not fit every existing hose. If yours is worn or an unusual size, add the Aroma Sense hose and bracket.

If it leaks

  • Check the rubber washer is seated flat in the fitting.
  • Re-wrap the tape with 3 to 4 clockwise turns and hand-tighten again.
  • Do not use a wrench with force. A quarter turn past hand-tight is the limit.

After installing
